SUBJECT:           Vehicle Burglaries

On October 27, 2020 at 2:13 AM, several officers responded to the area of Racoon Drive on the report of an attempted vehicle theft/burglary.  Upon arrival, a search of the area revealed that two additional vehicles were unlawfully entered on Deer Street.  Officers along with K-9 Rico searched the area and located a 15 year old male juvenile from Elizabeth, New Jersey. He was taken into custody and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and a violation of the township’s curfew. The juvenile was released to a parent pending juvenile court proceedings.   Three additional juveniles who were believed to be involved in these crimes were located a short distance away. Two 17 year olds and one 14 year old from Newark and Elizabeth were taken into custody.  The three juveniles were issued curfew violations and released to a parent / guardian.  This investigation is ongoing at this time.

 

We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to lock your car doors and take your keys inside.  During the last several months we have had officers increasing their patrolling of neighborhoods at night time and they have been routinely stationed at the train station in an attempt to stop these crimes.
